Construction Progress

August 2010:- The site is fenced off, foundations are dug.

September 2010:-The main framework is erected.

September 6th 2010:- Essex Chronicle come to the site to take photographs for the paper. A huge thank you to the local community for coming out in the pouring rain to again support the project!

September 27th 2010:- Thin joint blockwork and windows.

October 8th 2010:- Scaffolding up.

October 12th 2010:- First photographs from inside the new village hall!

October 19th 2010:- Blockwork completed. View from rear of hall.

October 25th 2010:- Beams for the roof are fitted.

November 2nd 2010:- Wall insulation fitted.

November 17th 2010:- Cladding 1st fix. View of front of buiding.

November 22nd 2010: - Roof installed.

November 30th 2010:- Snow slows construction.

December 2010:- Too dangerous to work on the roof but Thermowood cladding fitted to exterior of building.


January 2011:- The renewables are fitted.

January 2011: - Triple glazed windows and doors fitted.

February 2011:- Plasterboard and internal fittings.

March 2011: - We welcome our first 'Official Visitors' the children from Highwood Primary School.

April 2011: - Fitting out the main hall.

April 2011: - Laying the recycled grid car parking blocks.

May 2011: - Landscaping the site.

May 14 2011- Thank you members of AECB London for coming to view our community building. It was lovely to meet like minded people and we appreciated your positive comments.

The AECB 'Association for Environment Conscious Building', is a network of individuals and companies with a common aim of promoting sustainable building. It brings together builders, architects, designers, manufacturers, housing associations and local authorities, to develop, share and promote best practice in environmentally sustainable building. May 28 2011: - The external landscape for the site is finished. Unfortunately due to the current dry weather conditions, the main planting will now have to wait until the late autumn season.
