APPEALS - NEW CLUBS WANTED AT HIGHWOOD VILLAGE HALL

YOUTH DRAMA - The young people of Highwood would like a singing and drama group/club. If you already run such a group / club and might consider a new group in Highwood, or if you are interested in setting up such a new group in Highwood, please contact Shelley.

YOUTH CHESS - The young people of Highwood would like a Highwood chess club. Do we have any residents in the vicinity that would be interested in starting up or running a club at our Village Hall? If you are interested we would love to hear from you, please contact Shelley.

Qi Gong

Similar to Tai Chi, but easier to learn.

  • Monday mornings weekly from 10.30 - 11.30am

Elise Johnson has been teaching Qi Gong since 1988. Classes are in a 12 week course, or per class.  Qi-Gong uses slow, graceful movements combined with controlled breathing to promote circulation of QI [energy] within the body to promote overall physical, mental and spiritual health. As learned and performed it promotes a sense of calmness and well-being, working on every joint in the body improving balance, flexibility and the immune system. Daytime  Table  Tennis  Social  Club

  • Monday afternoon, 1 - 3pm.

£3 Per Session which includes all equipment, a cuppa and biscuits! All adults and abilites are welcome, especially senior citizens and supervised children. Initial training provided by ‘Table Tennis England’. The club runs for the majority of Bank Holiday Monday's, but please check with Shelley first that it is running before attending. TUESDAY

Iyengar Yoga

  • Tuesday morning weekly from 9.15 - 10.45am with Denise Mehlam

Iyengar Yoga improves strength, stamina, flexibility and the ability to relax.  Yoga is suitable for all types of people and all levels of fitness.  Classes are run as a 6 week course and the course cost is £42. The morning classes are general level for students with some experience of Iyengar Yoga.  The evening classes are suitable for beginners. There is yoga equipment available to use. Feel free to contact Susan or Denise if you need any advice or information about joining a class. Denise is a qualified Iyengar Yoga Teacher. Susan is a Senior Iyengar Yoga teacher and a Teacher Trainer. She has been teaching in Essex since 1980. Carpet Bowls

  • Wednesday afternoons weekly from 1.30 - 4.30pm

The Highwood Ladies Club

  • Wednesday evening from 8.00 - 10.00pm for occasional events only currenty.

A fun, sociable, evening with a wide range of speakers and events.  £3.00 on the door, which includes tea / coffee and biscuits. Occasionally the Gentlemen of Highwood are invited to join them! Thank you Iris for running this club over many years. Iris is now retiring and Highwood needs someone to take over and run the Ladies Club so it can again be a monthly event for Highwood's ladies. Highwood Community Choir

  • Every Thursday evening 7.30 - 8.30pm.

A choir for the community! We're not professional singers, although we do have some very talented members. The musical director of the choir is Kay Gibson a singer, pianist and flautist from Great Baddow. We all have a really enjoyable time Thursday evenings and raise money for a range of worthwhile causes. Open to residents of Highwood and neighbouring parishes, currently £3.00 a session. A ‘Community Coffee Morning’ with cakes, hot drinks, stalls and lots of opportunity to meet friends, neighbours and other members of the community.  The Chelmsford City Council's Mobile Customer Information Team are in attendance from 10.00-11.00am to provide advice about Council services together with the Community Agent for Highwood and police Beat Surgery. Delicious home-made cakes, frothy coffees and a guaranteed warm welcome, with lots of stalls to browse around. A plant stall, jam and chutney stall, cards and gifts, as well as a large double stall selling sausages, meats and bacon.  A chocolate stall and bathbomb stall! "The cafe is there to offer friendship, community spirit and a feeling of belonging. Each month we have a full house, which proves people enjoy the companionship, togetherness and place to 'catch up'. I think every village and town needs a cafe like ours!" Essex Stretch Academy - Monthly Restorative and Relaxation Yoga Workshops.

Essex Stretch Academy are expanding their classes to a Sunday evening, monthly from 6.30-8pm, for a Yoga Workshop. In order for us to fully restore, we needs to let tensions from all three of these layers of the body and mind fully release. This is extremely difficult to do which is why the majority of people at some time or another suffer with the results of tension; headaches, insomnia, digestive issues, high blood pressure, heart disease etc. Restorative yoga aligns the body and the mind with a gentle practice concentrating on stillness and release.  Yoga Nidra is the scientific evidence of removing tension through a guided relaxation. One hour of yoga nidra is said to be as beneficial as four hours of standard sleep. So if you feel stressed, tired, frazzled or just want to take some time away to focus on you, then please book.
